Moving
Hi all, We are moving to Spain in December, and we are very confused as to where to move to....we looked at a Spanish village Almoradi, which looks lovely. But now I am thinking whether to move to an Urb such as La Marina to start with, mainly because of my 13 year old daughter, I think it might be best to move to somewhere where there will be more English children. I am so confused as to what to do for the best. I do want to mix with the Spanish and learn the language???? Is there a mix of nationalities in La Marina?
one last question, my partner will be travelling to England every weekend for work, what is the cheapest way to get to La Marina from Alicante airport?? how long does the journey take? sorry about all the questions?
Thanks in advance.
I used to live in Almoradi, which is a Town, it has over 21,000 residents and only a small majority of them are British. It used to be about 1,700. There are good schools there but, If you can't speak Spanish, you have to take an interpretor if you go to the Doctors. Its quite a way to Alicante Airport along the AP7. From La Marina to Alicante is only about 25 mins in the car. You can catch a bus to Alicante from La Marina Village and then a bus to the airport. If you can drive, and have a car, you are much better picking your husband up and dropping him off. Hope this helps. Eve
Hi
We have lived in Spain for 8 years, our children were 4 and 8 when we moved they went straight inot a Spanish school with no other english children, it was hard for them at the time but now they speak good spanish and all of their friends are spanish.
We were going to move to la marina and went to look at the school, it was made of porta cabins and when I asked the teacher when a proper building was going to be built, she replied there were no plans to build one, also we did notice that the Enlish kids seemed to be sperate from the Spanish kids in the play ground.
It was a while back when we went so it may be worth you going to the school your self
We also have friends in the town of Sax who moved over with a 13 year old, he had problems with school and now is studying on line.
From what I have seen, the younger the child the easier it is to settle in and make new friends and learn the language.
Spanish Post
A few months ago I stood in a large queue to post cards to England. The lady in front of me put her post onto the counter. The gentleman started to weigh the post and stamp them, he picked up one envelope weighed it and stamped it, she asked him why it was more expensive than the other one's of the same size and weight, he answered- its a coloured envelope. Has anyone else come across this? Eve
I couldn't believe this Eve when you told me !!! How ridiculous. What does anybody else think ??
I believe this is correct in the Uk too, so always try to use white envelopes as they are cheaper than coloured ones.
Yes but you must admit the coloured ones are so much prettier. I always think I've done well when I've found a coloured envelope to go with the card !! x

Bars and Cafes
We have now tried all the British Cafes in Almoradi and we must say they are all very nice. All have different offerings and a warm and friendly reception. In particular we did enjoy the breakfasts in two places and lunch in the other two. The establishments are called Bar Elite, Cafe Vienna, La Cubanita and Que Pasa. We will definately be back. jenny
confused
Hi, I feel like Im going round in circles here, I can still not for the life of me decide where to move to in Spain. I want a Spanish village, but I would like a certain amount of ex-pats living there, I have looked at Almoradi and Dolores....I even thought of La Marina but decided it maybe too english for me. Does anyone have any ideas? I have 2 children that will be attending school, so it would be nice if there were other young british families within the community.....

TREE SURGEON
Does anyone know of a tree surgeon locally? I'm looking to have some extremely high branches cut.
Thanks, Angie
Hi There contact Michael on the deatils below,
hes not the tree surgeon but he did arrange the work for us and the spanish guy who came to carry out the work did a great job. he shaped our pineapple palm beautifully and we had another tree infected with palm weevle so it had to be completley removed, the area treated and the remenants all had to be taken away and burned in acordance with local health and environment policies. we were very satisfied.
you can tell Michael you got the info from this website.

Tapas
Anyone recommend a good Tapas place in V/martin area. Parents coming over soon and I have still not really looked for Tapas. Bad I know.
I have found that The Fox on The Fairway do a large range of Tapas now, but if anyone else can suggest somewhere that would be great.
Yes, try the Bahia on the Marina at Cabo Roig, fantastic, expensive but good, plus great scenery... Enjoy

WANTED LONG TERM LET
We are looking for a long term let house in Benijofar, Benimar, Atalaya Park, Quesada. Would even consider a rent to buy option. It must have 3 or more bedrooms.
I know of a house for rent in Benimar, close to the infant/junior school - will get the number and post it on here - 3 bedrooms.
we have a 3 bed house for rent long term in Monte Azul, Benijofar with communial swimming pools, My e-mail is [email protected]
Look on the cam bank website, they do rent to buy in all your requested areas. If you decide to buy the property after 2 years then 100% of the rent paid over the 24 months comes off the sale price.

Hi , The number for the one in Benimar is 966 713 449. It is a semi on a community but is very spacious and has 3 bedrooms, bathroom, seperate wc, utility area, lounge, dining area, kitchen, lots of storage, nice gardens, solarium, overlooks pool and gate from garden goes straight to pool area. Very small community.
Hi - When we moved over to Spain, 12 years ago, we moved to the Country - Crevillente. It was lovely but too quiet for us, so we moved up here to La Marina urb. There are all Nationalities that live here and lots of families. We like it here because the urbanisation stays open all year (a lot of other places tend to close). It takes about 25 minutes from Alicante Airport to La Marina urb. Hope that helps a bit. Siesta time now !! Perhaps other people could post their views to help you. Bye for now x
